BR hotel occupancies increased during pageant

Hotel occupancy and revenue rates in the Baton Rouge area increased June 5–8, the time period covering the Miss USA Pageant that was held at the Baton Rouge River Center on June 8.

According to figures released by STR, occupancy rates rose between 8.3 percent and 17.0 percent over the same time period in 2013. According to Nielsen rankings, more than 5.5 million American viewers tuned in for the 2014 Miss USA Pageant, which was broadcast live from the. This represents a 21 percent increase in total viewers over 2013.

Based on early estimates of the hotel census reporting, revenues were $652,516 on Thursday; $679,940 on Friday; $734,213 on Saturday; and $543,536 on Sunday.

Sunday, June 8, the night of the pageant, showed the largest surge in revenue with an increase of 25 percent more than the same day in 2013. This report only covers hotel expenditures, and does not take into account visitor spending at local retail outlets, restaurants, attractions, and services.
