Acadiana Crime Blotter for June 12, 2014 Acadiana Crime Blotter for June 12, 2014 Advocate story June 15, 2014 Comments MORGAN CITY — A Morgan City man was booked Tuesday in the October killing of a man whose body was found in a Berwick ditch. Tyler Francis, 18, was the fifth suspect arrested in the homicide of Willie Francis, who was found along the road Oct. 30, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jimmie Broussard said in a news release. Broussard did not say if the suspect and victim were related. Tyler Francis was booked into the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center — the parish jail — on one count each of first-degree murder and possession of marijuana. He is being held without bail. The suspect joins four others, including a juvenile female, implicated in Willie Francis’ death. Tyler Francis was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday without a struggle, Broussard said. A sheriff’s deputy discovered Willie Francis’ vehicle, which was running but unoccupied on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista at 11:30 p.m. Oct. 29. Eleven hours later, his body was discovered in Berwick along La. 182. Broussard said the investigation continues. Duson man’s death ruled a homicide DUSON — Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives have ruled that a man whose decomposing body was discovered Tuesday in a Marigny Circle apartment was the victim of a homicide Deputies found the body of Ignacio Juarez, 50, after being alerted about a foul smell in the apartment, Deputy Art J. LeBreton said Wednesday. “It appeared Juarez had been dead several days, due to the decomposition of his body,” LeBreton said in a news release. The condition of the body delayed detectives ruling the death a homicide, LeBreton said. He said an initial examination by the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office, along with other evidence gathered at the apartment, convinced detectives that someone killed Juarez. Opelousas man booked in armed robbery OPELOUSAS — St. Landry Parish detectives suspect an Opelousas man was part of a two-man team that used a pump-action shotgun Tuesday night to rob someone who lent them a cell phone. Deandre Jaleel Leday, 19, was booked into the St. Landry Parish jail on one count of armed robbery. Bail was set at $200,000, Sheriff’s Office Capt. Megan Vizena said. “When the victim handed the phone to Leday, an unknown male subject pointed a pump shotgun to the victim’s head while Leday reached into the victim’s vehicle and stole his wallet,” Vizena said in a news release.
