Members of the state Senate took turns Monday praying for a cabinet secretary and colleagues. The prayers sought to bring solace for struggles ranging from a child’s death to health issues. State Department of Children and Family Services Secretary Suzy Sonnier lost her 13-year-old son over the weekend. Gov. Bobby Jindal said in a statement that he was saddened by his cabinet secretary’s loss. State Sen. Jody Amedee, R-Gonzales, missed part of the last day of session to be with his 10-year-old son, Lee, who was in a hospital intensive care unit. Lee has been diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Prayers were said for Mandeville Republican state Sen. Jack Donahue, whose sister is battling cancer. State Sen. Danny Martiny, R-Kenner, also has cancer. Senate President John Alario’s daughter Jan soon will undergo surgery to remove a mass on her thyroid. Jan lives with Alario, R-Westwego.
