Grainger Foundation donates to SLCC

The Grainger Foundation recently donated $20,000 to South Louisiana Community College in support of its Abbeville, Lafayette and New Iberia campuses.

The grant will fund apprenticeship programs in air conditioning and refrigeration at the Lafayette and Abbeville campuses and in welding at the New Iberia campus, SLCC Chancellor Natalie Harder said in a news release.

The independent, private foundation in Lake Forest, Illinois, was founded in 1949 by William W. Grainger, founder of W.W. Grainger Inc.

Mark Herhold and Dwayne Dugal, market managers of the W.W. Grainger Inc. locations in New Iberia and Lafayette, recommended the college for the foundation donation.

“We are proud to recommend the programs offered by South Louisiana Community College,” Herhold said in the news release. “We understand the need for a skilled and trained workforce.”
