Crime blotter for Lafayette Parish for May 14, 2014

A Franklin man wanted in a Mississippi kidnapping was arrested Monday after a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office detective saw the suspect walking out of a Franklin hospital, but not before a chase that resulted in two school lockdowns, officials said.

Joseph Lightfoot Jr., 41, was found under a bed in a stranger’s apartment and arrested, St. Mary Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Traci Landry said.

The Sheriff’s Office received a notice Monday morning from the Amite County Sheriff’s Office in southwest Mississippi that said Lightfoot had kidnapped a woman and was en route to Franklin in her car.

Later, after receiving information that the victim was receiving medical treatment at Franklin Foundation Hospital, a detective saw Lightfoot leave the hospital, Landry said Tuesday in a news release.

A car chase down Chatsworth Road became a foot chase after Lightfoot abandoned the car, Landry said.

Deputies surrounded an area that included an apartment complex and was near two schools, Lagrange Elementary School and Franklin Junior High, which were placed on lockdown.

Lightfoot was booked into the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville on one count each of resisting an officer, resisting an officer by flight, resisting an officer with force, and on an Amite County, Mississippi, warrant for kidnapping.

Two more arrested in Crowley teen’s death

Crowley police arrested another suspect this weekend in the April shooting death of a teenager, and also arrested a woman suspected of aiding the fugitive while he was on the lam, officials said.

Denzel McIntyre, 20, of Crowley, was arrested early Saturday on counts of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in the April 5 killing of Perry Davis III and wounding of another male who was in a car with Davis, Police Chief K.P. Gibson said.

Also arrested over the weekend was Sharonda McZeal, 18, of Crowley, on one count of obstruction of justice.

“McZeal was charged as she was directly involved in aiding a known, wanted fugitive,” Gibson said in a news release.

The arrests followed those of two other Crowley residents, Patrick Moore, 21, and Brandon Moore, 21, who also were booked on the murder and attempted murder counts.

The Moores and McIntyre remain in the Acadia Parish jail after a judge ordered them to be held without bond.

McZeal’s bond was set at $25,000, Gibson said.

Davis was in a car with an 18-year-old man April 5 when both were shot. Davis died in a Lafayette hospital.

The other person, who has not been identified by police, was shot in the arm and recovered.
