Authorities identify remains as missing Loranger man

Authorities said Wednesday they have identified the human remains found behind a home on Brickyard Road as an Iraq war veteran from Loranger who had been missing since New Year’s Eve.

The LSU Faces Laboratory identified the remains, found April 22, as those of Jonathan H. Gordon, 31, who was last seen in the Hammond area on Dec. 31, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto said.

The cause of death is unknown, and the investigation is ongoing, Panepinto said.

Gordon, who received the Bronze Star for his service and bravery, is survived by his 7-year-old daughter, Panepinto said.

Gordon’s truck was found abandoned near Strader Road in Ponchatoula in early February, Panepinto said. Sheriff’s detectives had searched the surrounding area for the past two months, to no avail.

On April 22, a resident on North Brickyard Road was plowing a field behind the house and noticed what appeared to be human bones scattered on the ground, Panepinto said. The remains were collected and forwarded to the LSU Faces Laboratory for identification.

Anyone with information regarding Gordon’s disappearance or death should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 554-5245.

Detective Kovan Banks is the lead investigator on the case.
