First-time unemployment claims drop in La.

First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending April 19 decreased to 1,951 from the previous week’s total of 2,461.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission said Friday there were 2,619 initial claims during the comparable week in 2013.

The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, decreased to 2,125 from the previous week’s average of 2,170.

Continued unemployment weeks claimed for the week ending April 19 decreased to 18,996 compared to 19,131 the previous week.
