Ryan Broussard| firstname.lastname@example.org April 17, 2014 Comments Baton Rouge police don’t have a motive or a suspect in a shooting Tuesday night on Avis Avenue that left three people wounded. Four people were sitting in a car in a driveway at 9429 Avis Ave. just after 9 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up and someone began firing shots with a handgun, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman. Police do not know if the person got out of the vehicle and fired or if it was a drive-by shooting, McKneely said. As the shooting occurred, two of the victims jumped out of the car and ran a few blocks down Avis Avenue to a residence on Leonard Street, McKneely said. The three victims sustained various gun-shot wounds: one was shot in the leg, one was shot in the leg and arm, and the third was shot in the leg and hip, McKneely said. East Baton Rouge Parish Emergency Medical Services took the three shooting victims and a fourth person, who was in the vehicle but was not shot, to hospitals. Initially, police said one of the three shooting victims was in serious condition, but McKneely said Wednesday morning that person’s condition had improved and recovery was likely. The other two shooting victims are stable. McKneely said police were waiting to interview the victims to see what they knew.
