Downtown Lafayette receives top cultural award from state Downtown Lafayette receives top cultural award from state Advocate staff report April 15, 2014 Comments LAFAYETTE — The state Office of Cultural Development has tapped downtown Lafayette to receive the top Cultural District Award for 2014, the Downtown Development Authority announced Thursday. “The Louisiana Culture Awards recognize the very best efforts made to highlight and cultivate our state’s rich cultural resources, and Downtown Lafayette’s work over many years has been a consummate example,” Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne said in a news release. This year marks the first time downtown Lafayette has received the state award. Downtown will be recognized at a ceremony April 22 at the Capitol Park Museum in downtown Baton Rouge. “We are incredibly honored to win this award and look forward to continuing this momentum just as we built it, together as a cooperative downtown committed to our unique culture,” DDA Marketing Director Kate Durio said.
