Former Assumption teacher accused of past molestation Former Assumption teacher accused of past molestation Ben wallace| email@example.com April 16, 2014 Comments Assumption Parish sheriff’s deputies on Saturday arrested a 64-year-old former parish schoolteacher accused of molesting a young student of his many years ago. Deputies booked Glenn C. Simoneaux, 3241 La. 1, Napoleonville, into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on one count of molestation of a juvenile and one count of sexual battery, Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack said in a news release. A relative of Simoneaux’s in her 40s told deputies recently that Simoneaux began paying special attention to her when she was an 8-year-old student of his at a Pierre Part school, Waguespack said. The woman reported that the increased attention later progressed into sexual abuse at Simoneaux’s Pierre Part home, Waguespack said. Sheriff’s Office officials did not release the woman’s identity or exact age. Waguespack declined to comment on whether investigators received other sexual abuse claims against the former teacher, adding that the investigation is ongoing. As of Saturday morning, Simoneaux’s bail had not been set. According to a Louisiana law that went into effect in 2005, the statute of limitations for prosecuting some sex crimes involving victims 17 or younger, including sexual battery and molestation of a juvenile, does not expire until 30 years after the victim turns 18. Prior to 2005, the statute of limitations expired 10 years after the victim turned 18. It’s unclear which limitations apply to the counts Simoneaux faces because the Sheriff’s Office did not release the exact age of the woman, nor did it release how many years the woman reported being sexually abused.
