Man indicted in rape of child

A 37-year-old Baton Rouge man was indicted in the rape of a young child over an 18-month period.

Terrance Harris, 4843 Lorraine St., was charged by an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury on Wednesday with aggravated rape.

An aggravated rape conviction carries an automatic sentence of life in prison.

The indictment alleges the rapes occurred from Aug. 1, 2012, until Jan. 13 of this year.

The child was 10 when the alleged rapes began and is now 12.

The case has been assigned to state District Judge Don Johnson.
