A Denham Springs woman got out of her 2008 Honda Civic after a crash late Thursday night on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge and was killed when another vehicle hit her parked car, knocking it into her, State Police reported.
Kristina A. Delaney, 28, of Denham Springs, was looking back into her Civic for her cellphone when the car was struck by a southbound 2004 Honda CRV around 11 p.m. south of Industriplex Boulevard, Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer said.
Delaney had parked the car in the roadway and turned it off, he said.
Preyas S. Sevak, 30, of Baton Rouge, the driver of the CRV, was properly restrained and not injured, Sandifer said.
The first accident occurred when Delaney, attempting to pull out of a private driveway to travel southbound on U.S. 61, hit a southbound 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass, knocking it into the median, Sandifer said.
The driver of the Cutlass, Alonzo Williams, 38, of Gonzales, was properly restrained and not injured, Sandifer said.
Driver impairment is not suspected; however, toxicology samples were taken from both Delaney and Sevak and submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Sandifer said.
