Lafayette police honored for number of DWI arrests made Lafayette police honored for number of DWI arrests made Advocate staff report March 27, 2014 Comments LAFAYETTE — The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission recently honored the Lafayette Police Department and one of its officers for the number of drunken driving arrests made in 2013, officials said. Lafayette patrol officers arrested 269 suspected drunken drivers in 2013, and Cpl. Tommy Aphaiyarath by himself made 216 DWI arrests, according to a news release by the Lafayette Police Department. Aphaiyarath is a member of the department’s Alcohol Traffic Action Campaign section. The commission presented the awards in Baton Rouge. “With the assistance from a grant provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, the Lafayette Police Department continues to lead the state in removing impaired drivers from the roadway,” the release stated.
