FRANCISVILLE — Emergency crews rescued the driver of a pickup Tuesday who was trapped inside the vehicle submerged in water near old La. 10. The accident happened at the end of Ferdinand Street, which is also old La. 10, at about 1:30 p.m. The truck reportedly ran off the road and went into the water, known locally as the “gator pit,” near the old ferry landing, West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Randy Metz said. The driver of the truck was identified as George Cathey Jr., 65, 141 Tom Hudson Road, Winnfield, West Feliciana Parish Sheriff J. Austin Daniel said. Cathey was taken to West Feliciana Parish Hospital for treatment. Daniel said his condition is stable. “He was conscious. I know he’s in a lot of pain and they are running tests,” Daniel said. Daniel said authorities don’t know at this point what happened or what caused the truck to leave the road and hit the water. The crash is being investigated by the St. Francisville Police Department. Daniel said a motorist called in a report of a truck plunging into the water around 1:30 p.m. “We have a boat out there now and the water is about chest deep,” Daniel said earlier in the day before the driver had been rescued.
