Robert Higgins, 18975 La Trace Road, French Settlement, was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on a count of attempted second-degree murder, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lori Steele said in a news release Thursday. Higgins remained booked on a $75,000 bail as of Thursday afternoon, parish booking records show. Deputies were called to Higgins’ home around 7:30 p.m. about a shooting, Steele said, and found a 40-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was transported to a hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Deputies believe Higgins and the unidentified victim argued before Higgins allegedly shot the man, Steele said. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, Steele said. La Trace Road is southeast of French Settlement, off La. 16 in Livingston Parish. It hugs the bank of the Amite River.
