Morgan City names Banks as new police chief

Morgan City’s assistant chief of police was appointed by City Council members Tuesday to lead the department in the wake of Chief Travis Crouch’s death Feb. 8.

Michael Banks Sr., a 30-year veteran of the department, takes over a department that’s recovering from Crouch’s suicide in Mississippi.

Banks, 54, is a lifelong resident of the city in eastern St. Mary Parish, graduating from Morgan City High.

He began his career in law enforcement in Morgan City as a jailer in 1983, according to the department’s website.
