Retail sales hit record high in Lafayette

Lafayette retail sales hit $6.02 billion in 2013, the highest year on record, the Lafayette Economic Development Authority reported Wednesday.

Retail sales in 2012 were at $5.71 billion — the previous record.

“Steady sales across all categories reflect the diversity and stability of the economy and the confidence of local consumers to invest in big-ticket items,” LEDA President and CEO Gregg Gothreaux said in a written statement.

LEDA reported that 2013 saw five months where retail sales climbed above $500 million per month, the most for any year on record.
