Lafayette charter school session set Tuesday

An informational session about Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy, a charter school planned off Pont des Mouton Road, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ramada Lafayette Conference Center, 2032 NE Evangeline Thruway.

The session is the first of several planned for people to learn more about the school and the Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy, which will open off Savoy Road in Youngsville, near Sugar Mill Pond.

Both schools are overseen by the Lafayette Charter Foundation and will open to students in grades K-6 in August. Both schools will add seventh and eighth grades in subsequent years. The foundation has joined with Florida charter management company Charter Schools USA to manage the schools.

Each school is under construction and will measure nearly 58,000 square feet to accommodate 591 students in the first year of operation.

Online enrollment for both schools is now open.

Additional informational sessions are scheduled on the following dates:

Renaissance Charter Academy: Feb. 20 and March 18 at 6:30 p.m., Ramada Lafayette Conference Center, 2032 NE Evangeline Thruway.

Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy: Feb. 18, Feb. 25 and March 11 at 6 p.m., Comeaux Recreation Center, 411 W. Bluebird Drive.

A total of three charter schools will open in the parish in August. The other school, Willow Charter Academy, will open for grades K-5 in north Lafayette. That school will expand to include grades six, seven and eight over the next three years.
