  • DEMOCRACY IN THE MIDDLE EAST: 11 a.m., Higgins Hall Lobby, Southern University campus. Guest speakers from Turkey will discuss “Democracy in the Middle East: Who Really Wants to Develop It in the Region?” Event is free and open to the public. www.subr.edu.
  • BATON ROUGE PRESS CLUB: 11:30 a.m., Iberville Room, Belle of Baton Rouge Hotel, 102 France St. Rick Koubek, LSU dean of engineering, will speak. Koubeck’s topic is leveraging engineering education to retain talent for Louisiana. Lunch, which is served at 11:30 a.m., is $12 for members and $15 for nonmembers. The public is invited, but only members of the Press Club and the news media are allowed to ask questions.
