Acadiana briefs for Jan. 24, 2014 Acadiana briefs for Jan. 24, 2014 Advocate staff report| Feb. 02, 2014 Comments LAFAYETTE — The next monthly diabetes support group for children with diabetes and their families is at 5:45 p.m. Jan. 28 at Women’s & Children’s Hospital’s Kids Specialty Center, 4600 Ambassador Caffery Parkway. The group meets at 5:45 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month. The meetings typically last about an hour and are hosted by Dr. Janna Flint, a pediatric endocrinologist and Leslie Fontenot, a diabetes educator. “By meeting monthly, Acadiana families affected by Type 1 diabetes can come together and share ideas for success and offer each other a level of understanding no one else can provide,” Fontenot said in a news release. Flint said nearly 26 million people in the country have some form of diabetes. “With proper management and support, people with diabetes lead long and productive lives,” Flint said.
