CLINTON — East Feliciana Parish police jurors decided to solicit bids to overlay 15.8 miles of parish roads.
Finance Committee Chairman Larry Beauchamp said the jury has allocated $1.4 million to improve roads.
Public Works Committee Chairman Dwight Hill said roads designated for improvement include:
n Midway, Richmond Drive, Oakland Drive, Miller Road, Richardson Loop, Panache, Pipes Lane, Wilson-Norwood, Bank Street extension, Noel Thomas, Evans, Hillside, Ashland, Longwood and Elmwood.
n Scott Bar, Payne and Beech Grove roads were added as alternative roads for upgrading.
Jurors also elected Louis Kent as parish president Monday, defeating last year’s president, Dennis Aucoin, in a 5-3 vote.
Jurors voting for Kent were Hill, Karl “Bubba” Chaney, Keith Mills, Jason McCray and Kent.
Beauchamp, Ed Brooks and Chris Hall voted against Kent.
Beauchamp was elected vice president of the parish governing body.
Following the election, outgoing president Aucoin urged members to look at the parish financial picture at the end of the 2014 fiscal year and decide at that time if the vote for a change was in the parish’s best interest.
Kent told jurors it was important to remember their decisions were made for the benefit of the entire parish.
The new jury president also told members he would make new committee appointments at the next regular meeting.
