Ernest “Rockin’ Tabby” Thomas, who died Wednesday at 84, spent much of his life immersed in blues music, and come Tuesday night, those who wish to celebrate his life are invited to attend “A Musical Celebration” in downtown Baton Rouge’s Manship Theatre.
Fellow blues legend Kenny Neal will lead the celebration, which is open to the public and scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Manship Theatre on Lafayette Street in Baton Rouge.
The tribute concert will cap off two days of memorial services, beginning Monday afternoon, from noon to 4 p.m., with a viewing service at Desselle Funeral Home on Eddie Robinson Sr. Drive, according to a news release.
Viewing services will resume Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, down the street from the funeral home on Eddie Robinson Sr. Drive. Thomas’ funeral will begin at 10 a.m. at the same church, the release says.
The family invites the public to attend all events, according to the release, including Thomas’ burial at the Old Port Hudson National Cemetery following the funeral services.
