Man found in car in Slidell killed in N.O., investigators say

An 18-year-old man whose body was found Sunday morning inside the trunk of a car in Slidell was killed in Gentilly, apparently sometime during the weekend, authorities said.

Kenneth Young was shot to death at Peoples Avenue and Jasmine Street either late Saturday or early Sunday, said John Gagliano, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office’s chief investigator. Young died from multiple gunshot wounds to his head, Gagliano said.

Detective Daniel Seuzeneau, a Slidell Police Department spokesman, said officers were called about 8:30 a.m. Sunday to investigate a car in a wooded area of Slidell on Teddy Avenue, between Ninth and 10th streets.

The white Infiniti they discovered contained a large amount of blood inside the vehicle and in the trunk, he said. Young’s body was found in the trunk.

The New Orleans Police Department joined the investigation after Slidell police learned Young had ties to New Orleans.

Investigators learned the car is registered in Orleans Parish, and Slidell police handed over the investigation to the NOPD after it was determined Young was killed in the city, Seuzeneau said.

Although the NOPD identified the location where Young was shot, it has not said how it came to that conclusion. Detectives were speaking to Gentilly residents on Tuesday afternoon as they continued their investigation.

Police are trying to figure out if Young or his killer had any connection to Slidell, Seuzeneau said.

Young’s death brings New Orleans’ 2013 homicide count to 153.

NOPD homicide Detective Michael McCleery is in charge of the investigation.
