Two killed in Central City neighborhood shooting

Two men were killed Saturday evening in a shooting in Central City, according to New Orleans Police Department spokesman Garry Flot.

Flot said police received a call at approximately 7:45 p.m. that a man had been shot in the 2700 block of Amelia Street.

When officers arrived, they found a 22-year-old man lying on the porch of a home and a 23-year-old man inside the same house.

The 23-year-old man died at the scene.

He was identified as Johnathan Sam on Sunday by John Gagliano, lead investigator for the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office.

Gagliano said Stephan Raymond, 22, died later Saturday evening at a hospital.

Police have yet to make any arrests or announce any suspects in the case.

Flot said police were also called to a non-fatal shooting in the Desire neighborhood early Sunday morning. Officers responded to a call shortly after midnight of a man shot in the 2900 block of Ursula Spencer Way.

Jefferson Parish authorities are investigating a non-fatal shooting as well.

According to the parish’s 911 headquarters, a man was shot at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in Bridge City. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
