Finalists chosen for 2014 Lafayette teacher awards

Lafayette group hosts annual honor

The Lafayette Education Foundation will honor 16 teachers selected as finalists for its 2014 Teacher Awards during the annual ceremony Jan. 23 at the Heymann Performing Arts Center.

In its 16th year, the awards program recognizes Lafayette Parish teachers who are nominated by students, parents or other community members in honor of their dedication and commitment to education and their students.

This year, the foundation received 1,627 nomination letters on behalf of 635 educators, Etienna Wright, LEF programs director, said in a news release.

“We at LEF believe that speaks to the quality of educators here in Lafayette and the appreciation that our community has for those educators,” Wright said.

The finalists by category are:

Elementary School

JoLynn Dean, second-grade teacher at J. Wallace James Elementary.

Lynn McElroy, second-grade teacher at Woodvale Elementary.

Jessica Mouton, librarian at Evangeline Elementary.

Lindsay Nardini, third-grade teacher at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic.

Middle School

Josie Abington, seventh-grade math teacher at Youngsville Middle.

Annette Chapman, seventh-grade science teacher at Paul Breaux Middle.

Michelle Lakhotia, seventh grade math teacher at Judice Middle.

Victoria Landry, fifth- through eighth-grade choir teacher at L.J. Alleman Middle.

High School

Kirk Baudoin, 10th-11th grade health sciences teacher at Lafayette High.

Matthew Canone, 11th grade English teacher at Comeaux High.

Kevin Martin, cosmetology teacher at W.D. Smith Career Center.

Sandra Broussard, speech and debate teacher at Comeaux High.


Rachel Allen Gaspard, special education teacher at Paul Breaux Middle.

Catherine Harper, 7th-grade English and language arts teacher at Judice Middle.

Lisette R. Henderson, Spanish and REAL Program at Comeaux High.

Amy Ruddock, third-grade teacher at Lafayette Christian Academy.

The red carpet-style awards show begins at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 23 and tickets are available at all TicketMaster Outlets and the Heymann Performing Arts Center.
