Suspect in Lafayette armed robbery, battery surrenders

A 19-year-old Lafayette man suspected in an armed robbery and battery last week surrendered to police Monday, police said.

Shaquille Batiste was wanted in the Thursday afternoon robbing and beating of a juvenile in the 1200 block of Moss Street, Lafayette police Cpl. Paul Mouton said in a news release.

“The suspect allegedly produced a handgun and demanded money from the victim,” Mouton said. “The victim struggled with the suspect and the suspect fled the area.”

The juvenile sustained minor injuries in the altercation.

Batiste surrendered on arrest warrants alleging armed robbery and simple battery in a case that remains under investigation, Mouton said.
