An SUV plummeted about 30 feet off the Amite River Bridge near Denham Springs shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday, seriously injuring the SUV’s lone occupant. East Side Fire Department firefighters pulled the driver from the SUV, which did not go into the river after leaving the Florida Boulevard bridge, Assistant Chief Keith Smith said. The driver, a man, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Smith said.
