LAFAYETTE — The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Alumni Association recently recognized Jim Doyle with its 2013 Outstanding Alumni Award.
The award is the highest honor the Alumni Association bestows upon a former student, and it recognizes the professional and personal achievements of alumni who have brought honor and distinction to the university.
Doyle, originally of Milwaukee, earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1971, and while at the university played on football teams that won two conference championships and competed in the Grantland Rice Bowl.
After his graduation, he began his career as a salesman at Coastal Chemical of Abbeville and advanced in the company, earning positions of president, then chairman and CEO. In 1997, he sold his ownership in the company and continued to work in senior management.
Doyle was active in his industry, serving as chairman of the board of the National Association of Chemical Distributors and in 1992, the national organization recognized him as Distributor of the Year.
He remains active at the university and is a member of the UL Lafayette Foundation’s Board of Governors.
He served as president of the UL Alumni Association from 2001-02 and was the annual Alumni Spring Gala Honoree in 2007. He is also active in the UL Lafayette Alumni Association and Ragin’ Cajun Letterman’s Club.
He and his wife of 40 years, Charlotte, were recently recognized for their contributions to the community by the Community Foundation of Acadiana as the 2013 Leaders in Philanthropy in Vermilion Parish.
Doyle is a member of the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Acadiana and the Miles Perret Cancer Center, and a member of the advisory board for Iberia Bank.
The couple reside in Abbeville and has three children and three grandchildren.
