Jefferson Parish Council Chairman Chris Roberts will reign as the 2014 king of the Krewe of Alla, an afternoon parade that will roll in Uptown New Orleans on Feb. 23.
This will be the first time Alla has used the St. Charles Avenue route.
The krewe, which was founded in — and took its name from — Algiers, has paraded on the West Bank for more than 80 years. It cited financial pressures and the need to attract more members in announcing its move across the river for 2014.
Queen Alla LXXXII will be Gabrielle Lynn Taylor, a Terrytown native now living in Jacksonville, Fla.
Roberts, also a Terrytown native, graduated from Archbishop Shaw High School and Our Lady of Holy Cross College. He served on the Jefferson Parish School Board and as District 1 councilman before being elected to an at-large seat on the council.
Taylor is the daughter of Eric and Kimberly Beninate Taylor. Her grandfather John A. Beninate was king of Alla in 1966.
