Driver accused of trying to run over teacher
A 32-year-old woman is accused of attempting to run over a teacher Wednesday afternoon as the teacher was directing traffic at Riveroaks Elementary School.
East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputies booked Quenisha Denise McCray, 944 Hammond Manor, Apt. A, into Parish Prison on counts of assault on a school teacher and improper telephone communication, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Witnesses reported that McCray attempted to cut the line of vehicles waiting to pick up schoolchildren, which caused a teacher to step in front of McCray’s SUV, the affidavit said. When the teacher asked McCray to get back in line, McCray yelled, “Move,” revved the SUV’s engine and drove toward the teacher, the affidavit said.
The teacher narrowly avoided being hit by the SUV, the affidavit said.
McCray denied attempting to run over the teacher when questioned by investigators, saying the teacher stepped in front of her SUV after another driver motioned her to move forward, the affidavit says.
