A 29-year-old man is accused of fatally stabbing his mother multiple times Thursday afternoon inside an apartment in the 4500 block of North Street.
Baton Rouge police responded to the Turner Plaza apartment around 2 p.m. Thursday after receiving a tip from a relative of Broderick Patterson, 29, 4546 North St., Apt. 5343, Baton Rouge, that Patterson had just called the relative to confess to killing his mother, according to Baton Rouge police.
Responding officers discovered Luethel Patterson, 52, lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds, Coppola said.
An attempt to reach East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Beau Clark late Thursday was unsuccessful.
However, police officers noted Patterson appeared to be dead when they arrived at the apartment, Coppola said.
Broderick Patterson was at the apartment when police arrived, and was arrested and booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on counts of second-degree murder, Coppola said.
Detectives have not yet determined a motive for the killing, Coppola said, and are not yet releasing the type of weapon used in the stabbing.
Viola Duncan, who lived near the Pattersons at the apartment complex, described Luethel Patterson as a nice woman. She said she had only seen Broderick Patterson there one time.
“He can’t bring momma back anymore,” Duncan said.
