Audubon Zoo celebrates Latin culture and other New Orleans area events

Celebration Latina will be held at the Audubon Zoo on Sunday, Oct. 13, and will feature a taste of Latin American culture with live music, activities for kids and authentic Latin cuisine prepared by local restaurants. Local artisans will also sell handmade crafts and social service organizations will offer wellness, education and social service information.

The event, which is presented by the Stone Center for Latin American Studies at Tulane University, is free with zoo admission. Entertainment will begin at 11:40 a.m. and end at 4 p.m.

NOLA for Life Jobs Fair will be held at Gallier Hall

The NOLA For Life Jobs and Opportunity Expo will be Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gallier Hall at 545 St. Charles Avenue.

The event is pillar three of Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s murder reduction strategy and will offer resources, training, networking and employment opportunities for men between the ages of 18 and 30.

Attendees are encouraged to sign up for a Job Ready boot camp or a free resume writing class.

Mandeville Night Out Against Crime to offer free food

The Mandeville Police Department will hold its annual “Night Out Against Crime” event on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.

The event will be held at Paul Cordes Park behind Mandeville City Hall at 3101 East Causeway Approach.

Representatives from both the Mandeville Police Department and State Police Troop L will be in attendance at the event, where law enforcement equipment will be on display and the Mandeville Fraternal Order Of Police Lodge No. 42 will be grilling free hamburgers and hot dogs.

Drexel Prep Fundraiser will feature live music

St. Katharine Drexel Prep will hold a fundraiser featuring food and live music on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2623 Esplanade Ave.

The event will feature live music from James Andrews, Charmaine Neville, Shannon Powell and more. Food will be provided by Sweet Lorraine’s, Odessa’s Catering and Noel’s Barbecue. General admission is $40 and there will be a raffle with a chance to win $10,000.
