LAFAYETTE — A group representing the Young Professionals of LAGCOE on Wednesday gave $100,000 to the LAGCOE Educational Fund that could go toward scholarships and to support teaching math and science in middle and high schools.
YPL raised the money at a sporting clays shoot Sept. 20 and Sept. 21 in Maurice.
“Congratulations. You guys hit it out of the park,” said Raymond Hebert, of the Community Foundation of Acadiana, where the educational fund is held.
The Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Exposition Education Fund targets endeavors that strengthen the oil and gas industry, including promotion of exploration and production jobs to youths considering a career.
Tom Hebert, a nine-year employee with Frank’s International and chairman of YPL, said the organization has 600 members from Acadiana companies such as Frank’s and Stone Energy.
YPL’s donation comes weeks ahead of LAGCOE 2013, the three-day Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Exposition that will run Oct. 22-24 and will feature displays from oil and gas companies worldwide and presentations from experts.
