A second former St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy has surrendered to authorities in using the department’s gas card to buy $70.20 worth of gas for his personal vehicle.
Kenny Guidry, 33, 15 Grigio Loop, LaPlace, was charged with malfeasance in office, theft and access device fraud, according to the Kenner Police Department.
Another deputy, Gregory Cali, 38, 721 Maryland Ave., Metairie, was booked Monday on the same charges. Cali bought $86.90 worth of gas for his personal vehicle using the gas card. Both incidents occurred in August, police said.
The purchases were discovered during a routine audit of the Sheriff’s Office’s Fuelman account, said Capt. Pat Yoes, a department spokesman.
The ledger wasn’t adding up, apparently because of unexplained charges at a Kenner gas station, he said.
After checking the station’s surveillance video, the case was turned over to Kenner police.
The men worked as correctional officers, handling security at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. The gas card was assigned to a vehicle used at the airport, Yoes said.
The department’s audit did not indicate an organized or widespread fraud of the gas account beyond the two deputies, Yoes said, but noted that the investigation is ongoing.
