Authorities in St. Bernard and Jefferson parishes were investigating separate unclassified deaths Monday, each case involving two bodies found inside homes in their respective parishes.
The sitter for a married couple found a 74-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman dead in their home about 8:15 a.m., the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The deaths are unclassified until autopsies can be performed Tuesday.
“We are releasing few details until an autopsy is done,” Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
“There are extenuating circumstances that affect what the classification of deaths may be, and we won’t go into that pending the autopsy.”
Pohlmann said there were no signs of forced entry to the home or that a third party was involved. Cash and other valuables were found in the home, and there were no indications anything was taken, he said.
“This could be a murder-suicide,” he said.
On Monday evening, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office was investigating the discovery of two bodies inside a home in Metairie.
The Sheriff’s Office reported the discovery in a home in the 200 block of Mandarin Street a little before 7 p.m.
Those deaths also will remain unclassified until autopsies are completed.
No other details were immediately available.
