A former St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy surrendered to the Kenner Police Department on Monday for using the Sheriff’s Office’s gas card to buy $86.90 worth of gas for his personal vehicle in August.
Another deputy is expected to turn himself in Tuesday, authorities said.
Gregory Cali, 38, 721 Maryland Ave., Metairie, was booked with malfeasance in office, theft and access device fraud, according to Kenner police.
St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Pat Yoes said a routine audit of the office’s Fuelman account wasn’t adding up, apparently because of unexplained charges at a Kenner gas station.
After checking the station’s surveillance video, information was turned over to Kenner police.
Yoes said there’s nothing in the audit to suggest organized or widespread fraud that goes beyond the two deputies, but he said the investigation is ongoing.
