ASK THE ADVOCATE: Floating casinos

The configuration of L’Auberge Baton Rouge was approved by the Gaming Control Board and is consistent with Gaming Law, according to the Gaming Control Board. The casino sits on top of a three-barge structure and is floating in a coffer cell, which is similar to many riverboat casinos around the state. The support structure is not required to float. In 1999, the law was changed eliminating the requirement that riverboat casinos cruise.
