15-year-old booked on weapons counts
WATSON — A 15-year-old boy is in custody after bringing a pellet gun, knife and hatchet near Live Oak Middle School and South Live Oak Elementary schools in Watson, prompting lockdowns at both schools.
The teenager, whose name was not released, was booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on one count of terrorizing and two counts of illegal carrying of weapons, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lori Steele said in a news release.
The boy is not a student at either school, Steele said.
A school system employee saw the 15-year-old riding a bicycle near Cecil Drive while carrying an air-soft pellet gun, knife and hatchet.
The boy never set foot on either campus, Steele said.
Administrators locked down both schools around 10 a.m., Steele said.
A school resource officer and sheriff’s deputies quickly took the 15-year-old into custody, Steele said.
