A truck left the road at Blackwater Road and Comite Drive late Tuesday, traveling through a fenced playground and catching fire inside a building behind Friendship Baptist Church in Baker, the Central Fire Department reported in an email early Wednesday.

“Fire crews made a good stop on the fire and the main church building is OK,” Capt. Derek Glover said. “The young driver was able to escape without injury.”

No firefighters were injured.

Friendship Baptist Church is located at 10011 Comite Drive in Baker.

Glover credited District 6 and Baker firefighters for their roles in responding to the call.
