A new French language movie club will launch Tuesday at Vermilionville in Lafayette with a 7 p.m. showing of the “The Artist.”
The film will be the first of four shown this fall as part of Ciné-Club, which is being organized by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Francophone Studies department.
Admission is free, but a $5 donation is suggested.
The films will be shown with English subtitles.

ULL Constitution Day
A Constitution Day event will be held Tuesday at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, beginning at noon in the Quad with a brief introduction by political science professor Rick Swanson followed by a reading of the U.S. Constitution by students, faculty and staff.
If it rains, the reading will be held at Jazzman’s Café in the Dupre Library.
The event continues at 2 p.m. in Broussard Hall, room 116, where two professors are scheduled to square off in a debate over whether the Second Amendment should be repealed.
A discussion of the issue with the audience will follow the debate.
Court Appointed Special Advocates of South Louisiana will hold a dinner-and-wine fundraiser from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, with local accountant and CASA board member Damian Spiess serving as waiter.
The five-course meal paired with wine is $100 a person.

SMILE Community Action Agency will sponsor a “Health & Fitness Expo” on Saturday at Girard Park in Lafayette.
The event begins with a walk at 9 a.m. and will continue until 2 p.m. with free health screenings, activities for children and a health forum.

Wizard of Oz
The Christian Youth Theatre will present “The Wizard of Oz” in four showings from Oct. 10 though Oct. 13 at the Angelle Hall auditorium on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

The 24th annual “World Championship Gumbo CookOff” weekend is scheduled for Oct. 11-13 in Bouligny Plaza in downtown New Iberia.
