Woman, child injured in separate shootings Woman, child injured in separate shootings Advocate staff report Sept. 18, 2013 Comments A 5-year-old child and a woman were injured in unrelated shootings Sunday evening, according to New Orleans Police Department spokeswoman Hilal Williams. Williams said that police were called to the 4700 block of Sherwood Avenue in New Orleans East just before 8 p.m. where a five-year-old child had been shot twice and wounded. The child was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition late Sunday, Williams said. The child’s parents got into an argument while the child was in another part of the house. The child’s father, who was intoxicated, fired a gun at his wife several times, Williams said. He missed his wife, but at least two of the bullets traveled through a wall and into an adjoining room, striking the child in the leg and the side, Williams said. The child’s father will be arrested for attempted murder, Williams said. In a separate incident at approximately 4 p.m., a woman was shot in the hand and the side at the corner of Washington and Eve streets and was taken to a hospital, Williams said.
