Baton Rouge police arrested a man late Thursday in the fatal shooting of two men during an attempted robbery in February 2011 outside a north Baton Rouge apartment complex.
Melichi Corbin, 24, is accused of shooting and killing Brandon Watson, 29, and Calvin Ervin, 46, as they stood outside the Pine Crest Apartments in the 4100 block of Mohican-Prescott Crossover around 8:30 p.m. Feb. 12, 2011, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman.
Corbin was already incarcerated in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He was indicted by a grand jury in July 2011 on charges of second-degree murder and several charges of attempted second-degree murder in separate shootings, one of which took the life of a boy.
Christopher Williams, 14, was buying candy from a woman on St. Gerard Avenue when he was shot. He died later at a hospital. A 17-year-old boy also was wounded in that shooting.
Police planned to re-book Corbin into Parish Prison on two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Watson and Ervin.
