LAFAYETTE — Louisiana fire marshal’s investigators said they believe a 45-year-old Rayne woman died in an early morning fire Thursday inside her mobile home.
Rayne police and volunteer firefighters found Angela White’s mobile home fully engulfed in flames after receiving the emergency call at 2:13 a.m.
“The fire was extinguished and it was then discovered that there was a deceased person inside the trailer,” Rayne Police Chief Carroll Stelly said.
The blaze started in a bedroom, state fire investigators said, and the dwelling was too damaged to determine whether there were working smoke detectors.
The woman’s body was released to the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office and an autopsy was scheduled in Lake Charles, the state Fire Marshal’s Office said in a news release.
“A neighbor reported to investigators (White) had been seen through her window only minutes before the fire erupted,” the Fire Marshal’s Office said.
Investigators expect the autopsy results next week.
