63-year-old man shot to death in Avondale
A 63-year-old man was shot to death early Saturday morning in Avondale, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
About 1:25 a.m., neighbors called 911 to report hearing at least two gunshots in the 200 block of Capitol Drive, said Glen Boyd, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
Deputies who arrived on the scene found Alvin Alexis, of Gretna, slumped over the middle console of a Nissan Altima that had been backed into the driveway of an abandoned home at 229 Capitol Drive.
Paramedics pronounced Alexis dead on the scene. He had been shot multiple times.
Boyd said the car’s lights were on and the engine was running when Alexis was shot.
Investigators did not immediately have a suspect or motive in the shooting.
Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office’s Investigations Bureau at (504) 364-5300 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
Third suspect arrested in Slidell fatal shooting
A third suspect in a fatal shooting last week in Slidell has been arrested.
Daquan Ratliff, 18, was booked with accessory after the fact to second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Clarence Adams.
Police said Ratliff played a role in assisting the alleged shooters, 20-year-old Raheem Willis and a 15-year-old boy. Police did not specify what Ratliff did to allegedly help the two.
Adams was shot about 3 a.m. Aug. 18 in the 700 block of North Walnut Street. He died a short time later at the hospital.
During an argument, Willis went to his house at 735 N. Walnut St. and got a .22-caliber rifle and fired several shots at Adams, said Detective Daniel Seuzeneau, a Police Department spokesman.
Adams continued to challenge Willis to a fight, and Willis allegedly put down the gun and approached Adams, Seuzeneau said. That’s when police say the 15-year-old picked up the gun and fired several shots at Adams, fatally wounding him.
Willis and the 15-year-old were each booked with second-degree murder.
