House on Pocasset burns down Monday morning, firefighters investigating

A house that burned down Monday morning had no electricity, and Baton Rouge Fire Department investigators are trying to find out why two people were staying there.

The people escpaed the burning house at 3748 Pocasset before firefighters arrived, but one was taken to the hospital with severe burns, according to an email from Curt Monte, a Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesperson. The other was unharmed.

The call came in at 4:54 a.m., and firefighters had the blaze under control by 5:21 a.m., but the house — valued at $60,000 — was a total loss, Monte said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. He said anyone with information about the fire should contact investigators at (225) 354-1419.
