Gonzales police shoot, wound robbery suspect after chase Gonzales police shoot, wound robbery suspect after chase Advocate staff report Aug. 21, 2013 Comments A police chase in Ascension Parish ended Sunday night when a Gonzales police officer shot an armed robbery suspect after the suspect turned his gun on officers during a foot chase. Neither the identity nor the condition of the suspected robber was available late Sunday, Sgt. Steven Nethken, a Gonzales police spokesman, said. Gonzales police officers responded to an armed robbery about 8:30 p.m. at Domino’s Pizza, 1829 N. Airline Highway, Nethken said. While details were sketchy Sunday night, Nethken said that when officers were on the phone with the victim, they discovered that the robber had taken the victim’s car. With help from the victim, officers soon located the stolen vehicle and pursued it through the streets of the city and out into Ascension Parish, Nethken said. Once officers stopped the vehicle, the suspect fled on foot with a handgun. “While in the foot pursuit, the suspect turned on officers with the handgun, and they neutralized the threat,” Nethken said. The suspect is being treated at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center, Nethken said. Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the investigation.
