'Silky Slim' Reed talks poverty, violence (Video)

Arthur “Silky Slim” Reed, a former gang leader, has reformed his life. In his early years, Reed co-founded the 4 Down and Southside Wrecking Crews, which are credited with launching the gang violence that still plagues Baton Rouge. He was also a member of the Rolling 30s Crips gang in California, and spent years bouncing between gang life and prison.

Reed is now a community activist and founder of Stop the Killing, Inc., a nonprofit organization devoted to helping end violence. With so many years as both a criminal and an activist, Reed has a very unique perspective on poverty, drugs and violence in Baton Rouge.
