Funeral for former U.S. Rep Lindy Boggs on Thursday

New Orleans will commemorate the life of Lindy Boggs, the pioneering nine-term congresswoman, on Thursday with a Catholic Mass at St. Louis Cathedral.

The visitation is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Family and friends will deliver remembrances starting at 11 a.m., and Archbishop Gregory Aymond will lead the homily at 11:30 a.m., accompanied by retired Archbishop Alfred Hughes and Bishop Roger Morin.

Leah Chase will perform, along with the St. Louis Cathedral Choir and the St. Peter Claver Gospel Choir.

A second-line parade will follow the Mass. Boggs will be buried in New Roads.

Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne announced that the state will close the Cabildo next door on Jackson Square on Thursday out of respect for the service.

Boggs, who was 97, died Saturday of natural causes at her home in Chevy Chase, Md. She represented New Orleans for almost two decades in Congress and served as ambassador to the Vatican for President Bill Clinton during his second term.
