Livingston woman dies Thursday after crash with truck

An 18-year-old woman died Thursday after her pickup collided with a Mack truck on U.S. 190 at South Satsuma Road in Livingston Parish, State Police said.

Isabella V. Lacasse, of Livingston, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet pickup north on South Satsuma Road around 8 a.m. when she approached a stop sign at U.S. 190, according to an account of the incident provided by Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer.

At the same time, Mark Flaugher, 56, of Clinton, was driving a 1996 Mack truck east on U.S. 190, Sandifer reported.

Lacasse tried to turn left on to U.S. 190, but failed to halt at the stop sign and pulled into Flaugher’s path.

Flaugher tried to avoid a collision but struck Lacasse’s driver’s side door, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway and enter a ditch.

Lacasse, who was wearing a seat belt, died from her injuries in the crash, Sandifer said.

An infant passenger in Lacasse’s vehicle, who was properly restrained, was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Flaugher was properly restrained and was not injured.

Troopers do not suspect impairment was a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology samples will be sent to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Traffic in the area was shut down temporarily while troopers investigated the incident, Sandifer said.
