Volunteers are asked to commit to two to four hours per week to be considered an active member. Dues are $4 per year. Auxiliary volunteers direct guests at the information desk; distribute ice, water, coffee, mail and magazines to patients; provide information and help family members in the emergency room and various waiting rooms; visit with nursing home residents; and man the hospital gift shop. Broadway Boys coming Although the performance is more than a month away, general admission tickets go on sale Monday for the one-night appearance Aug. 31 of the Broadway Boys at Zachary High School’s Visual and Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $40 each and will be available online at www.raczonline.org. The six members of the group mix pop, funk, gospel, jazz and folk songs from a number of Broadway shows. The performance is sponsored by the Regional Arts Council of Zachary. Road closing The state Department of Transportation and Development will close La. 63, two-tenths of a mile northwest of La. 959 in East Feliciana Parish, from Monday through July 26 to repair a bridge. No vehicles will be able to drive through the construction zone. Traffic between Grangeville and Clinton will have to detour on La. 959 and La. 67. Civil War at sea Re-enactors will present the program “Unvexed to the Sea” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Audubon State Historic Site, La. 965, West Feliciana Parish. The living history encampment will focus on Marines and sailors during the Civil War. Bone Lady visits Mary Manhein, known as “The Bone Lady” and director of LSU Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services will talk to teens at the Zachary branch library at 2 p.m. Saturday about her experiences in forensic anthropology over the past 27 years, as well as her latest book and first novel, “The Canal Murders.” Copies of her books will be available for purchase and signing following the program. More library programs The Zachary branch library’s program for children at 10 a.m. Friday features a reading of Eric Carle’s “Hello Red Fox.” After the story, children ages 4 and older will create a fox mask out of card stock. Children 6 and older may spend the afternoon Saturday, starting at 2 p.m., playing either chess or checkers at the library. For more information on both programs, call (225) 658-1860.
